I’ve been using Twitter for awhile now, but just discovered a really cool tool that is so easy to use that a blonde like me could figure it out!

Shortening Links

Since you are limited to 140 characters on Twitter, why would you want to use so many characters on the URL of the link you are sharing? That’s what I said. So I noticed a lot of people were using tinyurl.com. I used that for several months, but then I discovered bit.ly.

Tracking Links

And that is where it is happening! I mean you can not only shorten the link, but you can watch in real time and see how many clicks you are getting and from where they come. I mean it will tell you what country they are from and if it is from Twitter, Facebook, or Friendfeed.

Getting Started
Anyway, here’s how easy it is to use. Open an account at bit.ly. Enter your Twitter address and password so you can Tweet it directly from bit.ly. Then, enter your long link and press “shorten.” It automatically goes into the Tweet box and you can write your text before or after it. Press “Send” and out it goes it into the Twitterverse. Now, scroll down the page and click on “info” beside your link which will now have a screen shot of your web page you linked to. Now, watch as your audience clicks!

I was amazed that I averaged 20 clicks per link I posted on Twitter. It really made me feel better about the amount of time I have spent on Twitter.

For the first time, I can track the effectiveness of Twitter for # of clicks per link posted. I can track my ROI.

Other Uses

But that is not all. You can also copy and paste the shortened URL and insert it in your emails, on your webpages, etc. and track them too. As a matter of fact, I will now shorten my bit.ly links posted here and track them!

So pull down a new tab in your brower, and get started at bit.ly.

For those of us who manage one or more business brands on Facebook pages, the day has finally come where we can link each page to update its concurrent Twitter account. Prior to this new application, it was impossible to update Twitter from a Facebook Business Page.

I was surprised at how easy the configuration was. It was so easy a blonde can do it.

Here is all you do:

1. Install the Facebook application by CLICKING HERE and entering your Twitter username.

2. Edit the Settings to select which updates you want to go to Twitter
Status Updates
Photos
Links
Notes
Events

That’s it!     After you follow these steps, when you post an update, link, photo, event, or video to your Facebook, the update will go out to your Twitter audience driving them back to your Facebook Page.

If you want more step by step directions for marketing online,  join the FREE Renegade University.  That’s where I got started.

Why set up a Fan Page?

Facebook was created for friends and family to communicate in a somewhat private setting.  Your Facebook profile should  be kept with that in mind.

The Fan Page is where you can go public with your business.  It is also where your business contacts can be added instead of combining business contacts with friends and family.

Keep your personal account limited to people you really know, like, and trust.  This will make your Facebook experience fun and safer.

Set up a Fan Page to market your business.  This is where you will post public thoughts, pictures etc. that promote your product or service.   The reason the Facebook fan page is a powerful marketing tool is because it is open to the public and can be found by search engines. It is also viewable by anyone (even if they don’t have a Facebook.)  You will be more careful about what you post here to keep a consistent brand message.

How to Set Up a Facebook Fan Page (aka:  Business Page)

Step 1:  Set up a Facebook Profile (if you don’t have one) by going to www.facebook.com

Step 2:  Set up a Fan Page, (this is the most difficult link to find so simply CLICK HERE.)

Step 3:  Add a profile picture or logo by clicking.  Upload a picture from your desktop.

Step 4:  If you have a blog, you can add content automatically to your Fan page by importing your blog through the notes

section. Click here for directions:  How to Import a Blog into a Facebook Fan Page

Step 5:  Add a Fan Box to Your Website or Blog to encourage your website vistitors to become fans.  Click here for step by step directions:   How to add a Fan Box to Your Blog or Website

I found a video on You Tube that shows you step by step how to do all of this.

Please leave a comment about any other tips or questions you might have about Facebook Fan Pages.

Mozilla Firefox

Getting a new laptop is fun! But, it requires lots of setup and customization to get it to work the way I like it. Since I’m in the process of setting up my new laptop, I thought I ‘d share some of the time saving tools I’m using.

Mozilla Firefox: Your New Internet Browser

To make internet surfing safer and to take advantage of the efficient tools available, you will want to use Mozilla Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. All my geek tech friends use it, so I figure they know a few things. Simply go to the Downloads.com and download the newest version.

Mozilla Firefox Add-ons to Save You Time
Now it gets fun. On the Mozilla homepage, click on the tab at the top of the page called, “Add ons.” Do a search for each of the following and download them.

Yoono
If you have Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and Friendfeed and want to manage them all at one time, this is an add-on you will love. Get all your friends updates in one place. You can share links and update your status to each of these accounts with only one click. It just doesn’t get any easier than this.

Wisestamp: Email Signature
Take advantage of your email signature to promote your blog and social media sites. If you use Gmail, this is a must have! It allows you to have html in your signature, add a picture, have all your social links, and even an RSS feeding your last post or Twitter.

Zemanta
I couldn’t believe this when I first saw it demonstrated. As you write a blog post or email, Zemanta locates related pictures, definitions, links and content that you can easily add to your post with a simple click. This is the biggest time saver ever and it is so easy a blonde can do it.

Shareaholic
Share links, videos, and blogs to all your bookmarking sites like digg and delicious. This plug in takes up so little space you won’t even know it is there.

Have fun downloading these Firefox Add-ons and saving time blogging and sharing your content.

After 14 years as a successful network marketer and coach, Mike was frustrated by the the investment required by his team to get leadership training in the industry. He spent tens of thousands of dollars creating a system that would be low cost and easy to duplicate for his team. While developing his system he stumbled upon a book by Ann Seig called The Renegade Marketer and it literally changed everything he was doing and teaching to his team. Now he could teach his team professional marketing strategies as well as help them make money while they prospect.

Mike found the strategies in Ann Seig’s book to be effective for him, but many on his team were baby boomers and they were not internet saavy. They were getting bogged down in the technical areas and he didn’t want to leave them behind.

In order to solve this problem, he began creating step by step videos to use to train his team on internet marketing strategies. The idea of the University was born. If his own team needed this, then perhaps others would benefit.

He opened up the FREE Renegade University to other network marketers and now it is available to anyone wanting to learn “attraction marketing.”

Gone are the days of making the list of 200 names, begging friends and family members to look at your opportunity, and making cold calls to expensive leads.

Now anyone with an internet connection, can learn how to attract prospects, to earn money while doing so, and to build an MLM online without experiencing rejection from loved ones.

About a year ago, I took some courses on internet marketing to help me promote a home based network marketing business.   Little did I know the vast opportunities that were available in affiliate marketing.  As a matter of fact, I had never even heard of the term before that course.  With the recession and fear of losing jobs, who isn’t looking for an opportunity to make some extra income online?   But how?  And what is the difference between MLM and Affiliate Marketing?

Network Marketing and Multilevel Marketing are forms of Affiliate Marketing

A network marketing company (MLM)  is really a form of affiliate marketing.  Basically you do the marketing (word of mouth) to promote their products.  You also get bonuses for recruiting and training others to do the same. The attractive part is that you can build a residual income from the product sales and efforts of others you’ve recruited.  Many companies have restrictions on using their brand names or trademarks which can make it difficult to market their products online.  Some companies don’t even allow you to be in another MLM if you are a leader in theirs.

How Affiliate Marketing is Different From MLM

BUT, with traditional affiliate programs, you can promote as many different companies and products as you want.  You can even promote competing products!  You can create residual income, but often without the downline bonuses or headaches.  You can market their products using their name brands and they even give you the banners and links to post on your website making is easy to promote online!

How to Market Affiliate Products

One of the easiest ways to promote affiliate products is to write a review.  At the end of the review, you can put a link to products you reviewed.

This week, I ‘ve been researching photo sharing websites that allow you to sell your photos.  My daughter is launching her photography business and has her first photo shoot coming up soon.  We needed a solution for how she can load the pictures and allow the clients to order the prints they want while maintaining their privacy and allowing my daughter to make a profit. Almost all of the reviews I read offered links to “buy now” and those were most likely affiliate links.  So a review called “Ten Best Photo Sharing Websites” may contain an affiliate link to each of the ten photo sharing sites.

So no matter which site I choose to use, the author of the review will benefit from his affiliate links.  Genius!

Then one must ask if the review is biased.  It may be.

But I feel good about our decision to go with Smugmug after reading several reviews (some with links and some without.)

How I Got The Affiliate Link

So once we picked out the best photo sharing site to meet her needs, the next question I had was, “How do I get signed up for the affiliate program?”  I mean she has a large network of friends who are photographers that will probably have the same need.  Eventually, they will see her website and ask how they can get one.  Whoola!  We will have a link for them to use and we will make %40 of their annual subscription if they open an account.  And this costs us absolutely nothing.  Smugmug uses Commission Junction to manage their affiliate program.  Since I already had an account with them, I simply logged in and searched for Smugmug.  I pressed a button to apply to be an affiliate and it was immediate.  I selected a banner and the code and put it on my website.  It was so easy a blonde could do it!

You can do it too!

By now, you may have already set up a blog or you are planning to set one up in the near future.

But, what do you write about?

Are you stuck with writer’s block?

Or, maybe you aren’t sure of your writing ability and now you are thinking, “why did I start a blog anyway?”

Do you think you have to be a great writer to have a successful blog?

I was in the same place you are and then I found this course taught by Mike Klingler called, “Writing with Pull.” I attended all the live conference calls and followed along doing the exercises. I wasn’t sure if I could do it, but he taught the course step by step in a manner that was “so easy a blonde could do it.” The course has been sold for $197 separately or is available in Renegade Professional as part of the training. But for a limited time, parts of the course is available for FREE. And now, it is recorded so you can take the course on your own time schedule.

Find out more at the Renegade Professional Blog.

I just found the most fabulous website that creates a Twitter Button you can post on your blog.  All you do is type in your Twitter name and it generates several different buttons for you.

Simply copy the code below the button. Go back to your blog widgets.  Add a Text/html widget to your sidebar.  Then copy the code in the box.  Save changes, publish and view your site.

It’s so easy a blonde can do it.
